Nichole and her daughter Josie experienced the magic of Dreams Playa Mujeres and both shared their favorite memories!
Josie and I took our first big trip, to Disney, when she was four-years-old. Seeing the wonder and awe in her face as she met Elsa and Anna for the first time is still one of my favorite travel memories. After that vacation, I knew this was something I wanted to continue. Over the years, our travels have led us to Niagara Falls, Yellowstone National Park, Hawaii, Cuba, a Disney Cruise, and this past January, a visit to Dreams Playa Mujeres for Josie’s first experience at an all-inclusive resort.

What was your arrival experience like?
N: Upon arrival at the Cancun airport, we were greeted with balloons and champagne (for my birthday) by the amazing team at VM Travel Services. Our vehicle was immaculate, stocked with snacks and beverages, and sanitized between each client. Once we arrived at our resort, we were asked to have our temperatures taken and given hand sanitizer. All employees were wearing masks. Bell services checked in our luggage and sanitized it before be taking it to our room. We were handed cool towels and tropical drinks and checked in by the lobby staff.
J: The view was amazing, and the people were very nice.
What did you like most about your accommodations?
N: We were lucky enough to stay in the Preferred Club in a Swim Out Double room. It was so nice having easy access to the pool, especially at night after the main pools closed. The room was very large with two queen beds and a pull-out sofa. Plenty of room for a family. The in-room tablet allowed us to check spa offerings, look at menus, and view the day’s activities.
J: The robes and having a pool in our room.
What was your favorite activity at the resort?
N: I wasn’t sure how COVID-19 would affect the resort’s ability to provide entertainment, but I was very impressed. Each night they offered something new. While we were there, we had karaoke, piano music and lounge singers, traditional Mexican dancers, a magician, and my personal favorite, the glow in the dark dancers.
J: The musical chairs in the pool because I won. I also really liked the water slides and kids club.
What was the best thing you ate on your trip?
N: Each day at the pool there was always a new lunch option. One day we had the most amazing shrimp tacos with mango salsa!
J: Chocolate croissants, ice cream, and frosty drinks.
What did you pack that came in handy?
N: A collapsible bag to take on excursions and to the beach and plastic bags to bring home wet suits. We also bought inexpensive, easily packable pool floats.
J: Sunglasses
What do you wish you packed with you?
N: Beach towel clips. Collapsible sand buckets are also a great idea if you have small children.
J: Goggles
Tell us about your excursions to Isla Mujeres.
N: Our driver picked us up directly from our resort to bring us to the marina. We boarded a very large and beautiful catamaran. Welcome drinks and a continental style breakfast were served. Our first stop was to snorkel. We saw some beautiful fish! We boarded the boat again and headed to Isla Mujeres. When we arrived, golf carts lined the street, and it was very easy to rent one and take a quick tour around the island.
J: I loved the golf cart ride and getting to sit at the restaurant swings.

Any advice for parents who are traveling solo with their children?
N: Snacks and drinks are now very limited during short flights. Grab a bottled drink with a lid after getting through security and bring snacks for yourself and your child. When traveling with only one parent and leaving the country, it is a good idea to bring a minor consent travel form that has been signed and notarized by both parents. Check to see if the state or country you are visiting has any COVID-19 testing restrictions or other requirements. Many of the forms can be completed online prior to departure and will allow you to proceed through airport security much faster.

What was your favorite part of the Kid’s Club?
J: Meeting new friends, making a dream catcher, and doing a talent show.
What advice would you give someone going there for the first time?
N: If Preferred Club is in your budget, it’s well worth the increased cost. Having a Bali Bed each day (get there early) really made for a convenient home base, especially during midday showers. We also loved grabbing snacks and drinks in the preferred club lounge and the location closer to the pool and beach made it very convenient.
J: Get a Miami Vice and go to Dolce every morning for breakfast.

What was the most enjoyable or relaxing part of your trip?
N: We spent most of our time at the pool. It was so fabulous to lay in the Bali bed and order drinks and food while Josie played in the pool.
J: Waterslides.
