The St. Lucian Difference

“If you’ve seen one Caribbean Island, you’ve seen them all .” As an avid traveler, I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement. They call St. Lucia the Hawaii of the Caribbean and after spending a week on this amazing island I totally understand why. After what seemed like a quick JetBlue flight from New York directly to St. Lucia, we arrived at the tiny Hewanorra St. Lucian airport, with only one “terminal” or gate. The most prominently displayed signage is the arrows pointing to the Sandals lounge, where guests are greeted and immediately, their luggage is taken from a friendly bellhop who directs them to the bright and beachy lounge and offered a crisp, cold pint of Pitons Lager, on tap in the lounge. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a beer so much in my life! After less than 20 minutes, just enough time to refresh in the lounge, the Sandals shuttle is waiting to pick guests up and drop them at one of three Sandals resorts on the island — Sandals Grande, Sandals Regency La Toc or Sandals Halcyon Beach.
Sandals Regency La Toc
We stayed at Sandals Regency La Toc, which was about an hour ride from the airport. There is basically one long and windy highway on the entire island, which is only 27 miles long and 14 miles wide – in a word – tiny! We stayed Club Level at La Toc, and were immediately greeted with champagne and access to the exclusive club. Snacks, coffee, drinks were in abundance at the lounge, as they gave us our room information and booked our reservations for the week. Our luggage was delivered to our room, and we were free to explore the beautiful resort!

Private Cabanas & Ocean Views
For the first part of our stay, we stayed in a first floor, beach front walkup. The picturesque view and easy access to the pools and beach was amazing and highly recommended for anyone that loves being close to the action and loves an ocean-view patio! On our first full day at La Toc, we rented a private cabana. Affordable and so relaxing, this was the perfect way to start our vacation.

Caribbean Cuisine
We tried every restaurant on property, from Armando’s (which sits high in the mountains of the resort, the views make the meal taste delicious!), to Kimonos, which offers sushi and Hibachi, which was so fresh and tasty! Our favorite restaurant, was La Toc, renowned for premiere French cuisine, it’s highly regarded as one of the best restaurants at all 3 Sandals in St. Lucia!

Romance on High
Perhaps the highlight of one of our dinners wasn’t the food — but the atmosphere, of our private candlelit dinner on the beach on our second night at the resort. While my first few bites of dinner were amazing, my boyfriend proposing midst entrée took my breath away! The onsite photographer captured the moment perfectly! IT was truly the most magical night of our lives and the Sandals La Toc staff made us feel as if we were the only couple at the entire resort!
Exciting Excursions
After the high of realizing we were engaged, the next day, we headed out on a full day excursion, with Joe Knows tour company. We did the Land and Sea tour which consisted of a mud bath exploration of the volcanoes, world class views of the Pitons, snorkeling and a motorboat ride to lunch at Marigot Bay, one of the most picturesque places in the world. This would be my ‘can’t miss’ tour of St. Lucia! Joe Knows tour guides were friendly, funny and super welcoming. It was truly an unforgettable day!

Nightlife
As far as nightlife at La Toc, we started at the Piano Bar each night and ended at Cricketeers Pub, which turned into a great dance club and late night snack stop! Not only were the pools amazing at La Toc, but the beach and Ocean was gorgeous and the water temperature was perfect for a quick dip. The privacy of the St. Lucian Resorts really set this Caribbean experience apart for us, as you really felt as if you were on your own private island!

There is so much more to explore and say about St. Lucia, but for now I’ll leave it at, it’s a must do for everyone – whether you’re looking to relax or explore — it is truly the perfect Caribbean getaway! Contact us at teamlbac@lbactravel.com to plan your romantic St. Lucian Getaway!
