If you’re ever debating on whether or not to take the trip…..take the trip! For my stepdaughter’s Sweet 16, we were forced to cancel her party due to COVID-19. So what did any good travel planner/stepmom do? Plan a Sweet 16 Vacation of course!

My husband and I took four 16 year old girls to Mexico at the all inclusive resort, Dreams Playa Mujeres, for a week and it could not have gone any better. The resort we stayed at was not too large and we felt very safe the entire time. The girls were able to explore the resort on their own…from the private beach, to the pool, the teen club, and their room. They were never too far from us but they still felt like they had their freedom. And so did my husband and I! We enjoyed our days spending time together and when we crossed path with the girls during the day or met up with them for dinner, it was so fun to hear about their day and all that they had discovered. We were at an all-inclusive resort, so the girls were able to try new foods that they normally wouldn’t eat. Our picky eaters were just as happy with our food lovers.

As a mom, I love to show my kids new places and have them experience new things. On one of our days, we ventured off the resort for a catamaran snorkel tour to a little island called “Isla Mujeres.” We watched the girls as they stared in awe at the beautiful blue waters surrounding them. Jet skiing another day was action packed as the girls raced across the ocean. And lastly, their first spa day had them being pampered like the princesses they are.

The week was filled with the perfect combination for a girl’s Sweet 16. Bonding time with her besties, getting away from the usual hustle & bustle that surrounds kids these days, and a new adventure that she will remember forever. For us parents, it was amazing to see the girls smiling faces all week long and to watch them forget about life for a while.  When asked if the vacation was better than a four hour party would have been – the answer was a very enthusiastic YES!!
