When my husband and I stayed in the Cap Cana area a few years ago, we said if a family resort is ever built on this beach, we will DEFINITELY take our kids! In 2019 The Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana opened and I couldn’t wait to plan a trip with our family and some friends.
Cap Cana is a gated community in Punta Cana only 15 minutes from the airport. The Hyatt is situated on a beautiful stretch of beach with white sand beaches and gorgeous blue water. It consists of 2 properties: Ziva (for families) and Zilara (adults only). The 2 properties are side by side and share an outdoor entertainment area, conference center and gym. Adults staying on either side have access to the amenities and restaurants on either side. The gym here is state of the art and has something for everyone. It is massive, consisting of several rooms and lots of equipment.

Because we were traveling for Spring Break with our kids, we stayed on the Ziva side, but did enjoy a few restaurants without kids on the Zilara side. The One Eyed Cat (a martini bar) is a must visit for all adults! The staff made the experience so much fun we had to go back a second night! It didn’t hurt that the martini’s were delicious! Our favorite meal was at the Tempest Table. We ate there on my daughter’s 16th birthday and enjoyed having our meal cooked right in front of us (just like we do when we are at home celebrating birthdays). They even sang to her making the experience even more fun for us. Just be sure to get there early – none of the restaurants take reservations and this restaurant fills up fast (especially the teppan tables). The buffet was a huge hit for breakfast. They offered everything you could imagine and since we visited during a Pandemic, the food was all served to us. It was very clean.

One of the things I love about this resort is that there isn’t a bad view in any of the rooms. The resort is built in a U shape and no matter what room category you book, you will have some view of the ocean (even in the resort view rooms!)

The Entertainment team did a great job coming by throughout the day and getting people involved in day time activities and letting everyone know what was going on each night. During the day our kids loved the volleyball tournaments on the beach. They also did water aerobics, learned a line dance, paddle boarding and of course the water park! The water park has a kiddie section, five types of slides of big slides and a fun lazy river. Some of the adults in our group enjoyed the water park as much as the kids! At night our favorite planned events were the Michael Jackson show, karaoke and silent disco. Silent Disco was new to us and we were hesitant to try it, but it ended up being the highlight of our trip! We also enjoyed sitting by the firepit after dinner relaxing.

Our family’s favorite excursion is always a Catamaran cruise. We booked one through Hispaniola Aquatic Adventure. It was amazing! Our first stop was to snorkel, and we were given food to hold out to attract the fish. They came right up to us! The next stop was to see ‘the coconut man’ at Coco Loco. We stopped onshore where a man was cutting coconuts and serving drinks to everyone (with or without rum). It made for a great photo op! Once back onboard the catamaran, we pulled up next to a boat that was a floating kitchen and served us fresh meals that were cooked to order (we pre-ordered). It was amazing! We made one final stop in shallow water where we could enjoy swimming and relaxing. And – the staff took pictures throughout the day and emailed us a link to download them. This was all included in the cost of the cruise. It was a great 4 ½ hour excursion!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at The Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana. It will be a hard vacation to beat and we hope to return one day. It’s the perfect destination for families or couples!
